  Monthly Favorites: September 2014
Thursday, October 16, 2014 @ 11:34 PM

It is the last quarter of the year, which means that my blog needs an update it's time for another monthly favourites post.

BEAUTY

Sheer Love Fragrance Mist by Victoria's Secret

Anything that smells good instantly becomes my best friend! I love Victoria's Secret product, especially their fragrances for they smell so good. Sheer Love has become a much-loved fragrance for me. It is light, fresh and floral. The scent is not overpowering; perfect for days which are dreadfully hot where I prefer to use something lighter. Sheer Love instantly puts me into a good mood after spraying it.

One thing I am not in love though is the staying power. I feel the need to spray on a little extra for the scent to last and it usually only lingers around for an hour or two. But having in mind that it is not a perfume, I guess it's fine. It is, however, great to just throw in my purse or bag and reuse throughout the day when I feel the need to add a touch of scent. The bottle is sturdy and spill-proof, so I don't have to worry about getting the fragrance spilt.

Eyebrow pencil by Nature Republic

Given that I am genetically unblessed in the eyebrow department (sigh), I have to invest on eyebrow pencils. Fact101: The first make-up product I bought was an eyebrow pencil. This one in particular, is one of my favourite. It comes with caps on both ends; one with a self-sharpening pencil and the other with a spooly brush.

The eyebrow pencil comes in three shades but I picked the one in dark brown because it matches with my brows and the colour black was a little too harsh for me. The colour goes on really subtly, so I don't have to worry about going overboard but it also means that I have to layer it a bit more. In the end, it gives a nice natural look which I really like.

Before

After. Having full eyebrows does make a lot of difference.

The only problem with this product (together with all the other brow products I've used) is that it tends to smudge and fade over time due to my oily skin. Any other recommendations for brow products that would go well with oily skin? Or you could also suggest a suitable oil-free cleanser to get rid of my oily skin! (desperately need help in this area guis)

FASHION

Asymmetric short

You have probably seen this piece going viral on social medias and no surprise that it is up on my blog too. This skort has been on the wish list for a very long time and when I saw it hanging on the rack, I told myself I need to get it. It looks exactly like the one from Zara with the exception that it is much cheaper.

I love the clean and crisp white colour as well as the on trend asymmetric design. It features a layered skirt-look front, side pockets and most importantly, it is high-waisted hehe. This piece is so chic, and seeing that it can be styled in so many different ways I think I would be doing myself a disservice by not purchasing it!

Plaid shirt from H&M

This plaid/flannel/checkered (this print has so many names to it) has been my favourite shirt to wear this month. I think I mentioned it before that I love versatile pieces and this was definitely one of them. It goes well with shorts, dresses and skirts. The colour of this print leans more towards the darker shade, so it is not very striking. Most importantly, it is comfortable to be worn for it comes in good quality.

EDAN Tote & Shoulder Bag from Kstyleme

This is my go-to bag for the month of September. I discovered this bag from one of Jenn Im's videos, and I was instantly attracted to it. I love the tote shape of the bag and how it comes with an extra strap so I can carry it on my shoulder. It's great because it has quite a lot of room, so I can chuck a fair amount of belongings in it. It comes with a bunch of other colours too, but I went with black since black goes well with everything. However, I was greatly disappointed when I received the bag from the mail because it was of poor quality given that the price of the bag wasn't cheap. The tote shape of the bag changes when you put it too many things and it is rather flimsy.

But since I received plenty of complements for this bag, I shall put aside all the drawbacks of this bag hehe. Despite that, I still wouldn't consider purchasing bags from this online shop again.

BOOK

Far From You by Tess Sharpe

Nine months. Two weeks. Six days.

That's how long recovering addict Sophie's been drug-free. Four months ago her best friend, Mina, died in what everyone believes was a drug deal gone wrong - a deal they think Sophie set up. Now that she's free, Sophie is obsessed with finding Mina's killer. Despite Sophie’s eagerness to find the killer, the hunt for him feels a bit abandoned as past events are continually revisited and analysed.

Far From You is by no means a good book. I like how this book is far more than your average murder mystery. It’s surprisingly emotional and realistic, with a lot of raw honesty woven into Tess Sharpe’s words. While I'm not always a big fan of LGBT, Tess Sharpe has done it right. There is romance, romance that is bittersweet and frank and touching, with LGBT themes briefly explored, and a refreshingly open ending. The plot is strong and the use of flashbacks is skilfully incorporated in the story. It gets me so addicted to it that I would sacrificed my extra hours of sleep to continue reading it.

 TV DRAMA

The Line Walker

This drama is not only my favourite TVB drama for the month of September, but also my favourite TVB drama of all times. It’s a police drama but with many other elements incorporated including comedy, light hearted moments, life and death plus many exciting scenes. The story talks about a conspiracy, where five police undercovers lost their identity. As a CIB Chief Inspector, Cheuk Sir uses all his efforts to search for the five undercovers, save them and solve crimes together.

Each actor is worth noting, but standouts include Raymond Lam as Bao Seed and Charmaine Sheh as Ting Siu-Ka. Both Raymond and Charmaine were so immersed in their roles and they brought their characters up really well. This drama keeps me anticipating the next secret that will be revealed in every episode. I was only introduced to this drama when it is already starring episode 13 but given that I was so addicted to it, I managed to cover up all the episodes that I missed in the span of a week hehe. Definitely, I encourage all my readers to watch this drama (especially if you are a TVB fan!)

CAFE

Café-hopping has been one of my favourite thing to do. Truth be told, I am not a very huge fan of coffee but a cup of coffee these days isn't just a cup of coffee. Coffee is also about meetings, gathering or chilling. I love discovering new birth of independent cafés, I love conducting online researches about them, I love analysing the little details of the particular café and taking pictures of them- I just love visiting cafés in general.

I couldn't be more than happy when my church (HSG) decided to open a café in my church compound. Yes, you read it right; a café in a church. Church and café are both my favoured places to go, and now that they are both situated in one location; it's practically killing two birds with one stone hehe.

Presenting The Exchange; where yummy coffee and friendly baristas exist!

Surprise, surprise. My sister works as one of the baristas and she makes good coffee.

Flat white is my favourite cup of coffee at the moment.

If you take a close look at the menu, you'd notice that The Exchange sells their F&B at affordable prices. Hot coffees go up to RM5 a cup and teas only cost you RM2. Pastries are selling at low costs as well! You'd save so much money compared to other cafés in town that charges you about 10-15 ringgit per cup which serves you almost the same type of coffee.

The Exchange Café

No. 10, Jalan Awan Berarak, Taman Yarl, 58200 Kuala Lumpur
Currently opens on Saturday (11a.m.-3p.m.) and Sunday (8.30a.m.-3p.m.)

OTHERS

 Wallet from Topshop

I found myself looking for a new wallet after realizing that my old one seemed to be imperfect for my needs, mainly due to its small size. This black and gold one instantly caught my attention when I was walking around Topshop. It has three compartments in total; a zipped one to store my coins. This choice seems to be made well with enough storage for everything I keep in a wallet. I like how the gold complements the black leather skin of the wallet; making it look chic and elegant. Overall, the wallet is of great quality and the stitching is all well done.

That is about it for the month of September. I have loads of assignments piling up like mountains; waiting to be completed one by one. I will try my best to keep this blog as alive as possible given the amount of tests and assignments I have to deal with in this semester.

God bless you soul (and mine please).
