Monthly Favorites: April & May 2014
Tuesday, June 17, 2014 @ 11:16 PM

Back with a monthly favorites post and this round, I will be wrapping up the things I love both in April and May. Yes I am aware that we are already in the third week of June, but it is better late than never right?

BEAUTY

Maybelline Shine Free Foundation in the shade "Honey"

Given that I apply very minimal make-up on a daily basis (actually, I only draw my brows lol), I avoid using liquid foundations or BB creams because it requires so much effort in removing the product. Hence, I opt for this one since it comes in a pressed powder form. So far, I would say that I am pretty satisfied with this product. It comes with a mirror and a sponge which I like because it is more convenient. The shade matches my skin tone pretty well but it does not stay on for long which requires reapplication. In addition to that, the oil control is not really good even though it claims that it provides long lasting oil control.

Apart from the short staying power and non effective oil control, I have no other complaints for this. It mattifies my face well, has a sheer coverage and is really smooth during application. To top it off, it is very affordable as well! Also, it comes in five different shades to match different skin tones.

Dove Intensive Repair Overnight Treatment

I have to start by saying that I love the packaging of the product! A simple pump bottle that I find it easy to dispense 2 to 4 pumps recommended on the bottle. The formula is a nicely scented lightweight cream that isn't too sticky. I love the smell that it has and it stays in my hair even when the product is gone. It can be applied on damp or towel dried hair - I apply it on the latter. I think it's better than applying it when my hair is too wet for it would be such a waste to do so. I like to apply this to my mid lengths and ends and it leaves them silky, soft and shiny the next morning.

It does help in keeping my hair untangled and giving it some moisture but I have found that it leaves my hair slightly greasy so I need to wash it more often. But because of this product I wake up to wavy, untangled, manageable hair!

BOOKS

All three books from the Divergent series!

I have developed an interest in reading young-adult dystopian novels ever since I finished the Hunger Games series. After watching the movie Divergent, I was eager to get my hands on the books and TA-DAAA! I loved Divergent. It was everything a book should be: smart, philosophical, funny and sad in all the right places. I got to admit that the book is better than the movie.

Insurgent on the other hand, wasn't as good as Divergent. It talks about how Tris braces herself in a series of events that will change the life of the city forever. There were a lot of exciting scenes in the book but at the same time, a lot of loopholes and unpolished sides. I find myself with mixed feels over this book but nonetheless, I still like the book and super like the series!

I am currently at the third book of the Divergent trilogy, Allegiant and I am loving it so far. I hope that it will be good!

FASHION

Black sandals from Forever 21

Finally added a new pair of sandals into my shoe collection hehe. I love how the black straps give a very simple and clean look yet it looks fashionable at the same time. In terms of comfort, it is not the most comfortable pair of sandals I've owned but it gets better after a while. And since it is in the color black, it goes almost with any outfit which is definitely what I look for in a pair of shoes.

Graphic tee from H&M

Monochrome pieces are staples in my closet and this just happens to be one of my favorites. This tee hugs the body at the right places for it is neither too tight nor is it too loose. I think the graphic is really pretty and it's definitely what I would wear. This tee is also at its perfect length for it is not too cropped or too long. I have been wearing this tee non-stop ever since I got it!

Chain necklace from H&M

I like how this is not just any ordinary silver chain necklace, but it has the black detailing that comes with it. Just by putting it on, it makes any outfit look a little more fancy even though I hardly put effort on it. The quality of the necklace on the other hand isn't very good because the silver part of the necklace is starting to rust. Then again, maybe it is because I have been wearing it non-stop ever since I bought it so; I guess it differs for everyone depending on how you take care of it.

Anorak jacket from Cotton On

I think anorak jackets help to create a laid back yet a very put together look at the same time. Got mine from Cotton On when it was on sales and it actually came in MY size omg you cannot imagine how happy I felt because clothes on sales usually are in huge sizes (not sure if every customer is skinny or). Initially, I wanted to get the one in the color army green but the only one available came in rusty brown, so I settled for this. I don't regret it though; in fact I like it for I don't own clothes in this color. It reminds me of autumn every time I put this on- I mean, it is not like I've actually experienced autumn before but this color just falls in the autumn color palette, no? What am I babbling about even.

A better look of the jacket! The pictures are definitely not doing its justice. It looks better in real life.

Daisies top from H&M

As you can tell, I do have a slight obsession with daisies and what more a crop top with daisy prints. I was overjoyed when I first saw this top hanging on the rack in H&M but they ran out of my size. Thank heavens that the outlet in Japan had my size (and in case you're wondering, Woo got it for me during her trip to Japan ok). I like pairing it with high waisted shorts and sneakers for a casual look.

MOVIES

The Other Woman

The Other Woman is a comedy movie which happens to be my favorite movie genre! The movie begins with how Carly tries to get her ruined life back on track after learning that her boyfriend, Mark to be a married man. However, she accidentally meets the wife of her boyfriend, Kate and things started to change. The two polar opposite personalities- Kate being very insecure and naive whereas Carly is a confident, high-powered lawyer- begin to find that they both have much in common. Eventually, Carly decides that she wants to plot a revenge against her boyfriend, so both Kate and Carly team up together to ruin Mark's life. In the midst of the process, another affair is unexpectedly discovered. All three women then come to a resolution to bring the terrible cheating man back to the very bottom.

I find this movie ridiculously funny and humorous. I wouldn't say there was non-stop laugh riot but the big laughs are there. In fact, there were no dull moments and the actors really did a good job. A must watch movie for all of you out there!

FOOD

Matcha Green Tea Ice-cream by Lots De Green Tea Garden

And yet, another green tea related food makes its appearance again hehe. Forgive me for I don't think I will ever get over this obsession with green tea. Especially not when it is in the form of an ice-cream! This one particularly comes in the perfect flavor for it is not too sweet and it has the right amount of green tea tang to it.

Banana cream crunch frappucino

I have never really been a fan of bananas; not that I dislike it but it wasn't my favorite. In spite of that, this frappucino has changed my mind. No, it still has not take the number one spot of green tea in my heart. Not sure if this is still on the menu since it was only available for a limited period of time, but do try it if you have the chance to!

RESTAURANT/CAFE

The Good Tea Company

New category on the monthly favorite series hehe. I thought I'd document my favorite restaurants or cafes every month too. Moving on, The Good Tea Company is a family-run business specializing in teas. Other than teas, they serve coffee, cakes, scones and pastries.

I cannot remember what exactly was the name of the tea I ordered but I think it was called the Apple Darjeeling Tea. In case you haven't figured it out, I've always loved teas and preferred drinking teas over coffees. This apple tea had a really lovely fragrance to it and it was the perfect brew!

We also tried their scones, cheesecake and lemon baked slice, and gosh, just the thought of it makes me drool for more. Even though they specialize in teas, they do serve one of the best pastries in town. Every single pastry is home baked and fresh from the oven.

The ambiance itself is another plus point. Restaurants or cafes which have a cozy or creative concept instantly draw me to them. I love how nice and warm this place feels although it might be a little cramp due to the lack of space. Also, the owner herself was very friendly and welcoming to us when we were taking our orders.

In case you're wondering where is this place, The Good Tea Company is located at Main Place Mall in USJ 21.

OTHERS

Not sure what I should call this even. It is too big to be called a purse but also too small to be called as a clutch. Despite its awkward size, it has now become one of my necessities lol. I have been using this pouch/purse to store my cash, cards and even my hand phone. It comes with card and coin compartments which makes it much easier to organize my things. Also, it comes with a strap that wraps around my wrist, so I do not need to hold it all the time. On days where I have to leave the house and I am too lazy to carry a bag around, I throw all my essentials into it and I am done!

That's about it for now. Got to get started on my studies for I have been procrastinating a lot. I have a computing test to sit for this week and a Macroeconomics test on the following week. And now I am just reminded that I have an English test too. Do wish me the best of luck as I try my very best to focus on studying.
