  Prom Night 2013
Monday, February 3, 2014 @ 12:08 AM

Gosh I have a lot of backdated blog posts to complete! I promise will try to be more efficient after this.

Prom night! Finally getting down to this blog post.

Organizing a prom is definitely not an easy task. Be it booking a venue, deciding on a menu, coming up with activities and collecting the fees. I'm so glad that Woo and the rest were willing to put in effort in order to work this out. Initially we wanted to have our prom at Hilton Hotel in Petaling Jaya and we were so close to it but the date we wanted was not available anymore due to some last minute changes. In the end, we chose Pearl International Hotel as the venue.

The preparations for prom begin about few months before prom lol (and prom wasn't even confirmed by then). That was because I decided to just use the pieces from my wardrobe instead of hunting for a new dress. I wore a black lace cropped top from Bershka and paired it with a hi-low mint skirt from Forever 21. Managed to get some accessories to go along with my outfit when I was on a prom shopping with my girls and finished it off with a pair of nude heels from F Block. Got my hair done in curls at Kimarie and I've got to admit that I love my hairstylist's work! Also, I must give credits to my mom and sis who spent the afternoon doing my makeup and bearing with me ranting lololol.

Mom said that I would be a huge hassle when I get married in the future. Hey I can't be THAT bad okay!

I reached the hotel earlier that day because Suet Ling and I were planning to rehearse on the songs we were about to perform but she was late.  But it's okay because there were others who reached earlier than me. All the girls looked so pretty and it took me some time to recognize Chui See because of her make-up. She is already pretty of course, but the make-up and contact lens did make her look better. :P

The hall we got was pretty small but it was enough for the 70 who showed up that night. The theme for the night was 'Winter Wonderland' and I must say the hotel management did a pretty good job for the decorations! Each chair was tied with baby blue ribbons and the backdrop itself was also in blue. We decorated the hall a little more with snowflakes, tiny Christmas tree and even a photobooth area but no one really noticed it so.

Woo and Mei Thoong were in charge of the registration that night.

Must make good use of the stage before everyone else arrives.

Oh and who could forget about FungWee? They entered the hall, her arms around his and everybody squealed!

Sigh, things forever alone people do.

People started filling the hall one by one when it was about 7pm. It was nice to see all my schoolmates getting dressed up. I have never seen my classmates looking all smart and gorgeous for the past five years because I only see them in their uniforms everyday lol. Aside from the outings we've been to lah of course.

The event was supposed to start at 7pm but you know, Malaysians being Malaysians, it only started at 7.45pm. Suhaasan and Wei Juene were the emcees of the night. Prom kick-started with the nominations for the prom king and queen. Basically all the couples were nominated including the odd one- Suet Ling and Angie lol.

The nominations then began and next up was dinner. We got a table right in front for a better view but the downside of our seats was that the food was located so far away from us. :( The menu of the night consisted of Western cuisines such as pasta, chicken salad, grilled vegetables, lamb and desserts. I absolutely loved the chicken salad and one of the desserts which I can't exactly describe. Cannot remember much about the food because I didn't eat much (yes I regret a lot) but overall, the dishes were not bad considering the price we paid.

With some of the tablemates.

Meanwhile during dinner, Jack sang 'Treasure' by Bruno Mars. Shas and Chui See were supposed to be up next but they took decades to return from the toilet lol. In the end, they did 'Beneath Your Beautiful'. Hedy who was a special guest performed an acoustic version of 'Radioactive'. Thumbs up to all the performers of the night who did their best despite the very horrible sound system!

It was then finally our turn! Wei Juene described Suet Ling and I as the angles of Santa's who came down to perform LOL I know right. We sang 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' and I think we did okay. I forgot the lyrics in the second verse because I didn't practice much hehe but I guess no one noticed except for Suet Ling. Anyway, we did our best!

Suet Ling was definitely enjoying the moment.

I thought Suet Ling and I were the last performers but suddenly, Wei Juene mentioned that there was ONE more performer. Certainly she did an absolute job in informing everyone for the whole crowd were in suspension. Turned out that the last performer was Wee! We were all shocked to see him walking up to the stage and everyone cheered for him as he dedicated his song 'Truly, Madly, Deeply' to his girlfriend, Fung Yee. It was so sweet and touching and loving and gosh I am lost for words to describe his action!

"I looked into her eyes and I sang, she, being the emotional type, averted her gaze and held back her tears. I ignored everyone else, the snickers, the laughs, the claps, the looks and tears; she gave me strength."

How can anyone be so sweet *wipes away tears with tissues*

Next was the highlight of the night- the announcement of the prom king and prom queen! Henry was announced as the prom king followed by Angie as the prom queen. I was wishing that the couple would be FungWee but it's alright. The prom king and prom queen had the honour of the first dance with their significant other as the other couples joined in.

As for the rest of the forever loners, we spent that moment watching the couples dance and spotting new couples such as

OOOH WHO IS THIS

YAAAS I KNEW THAT ALL ALONG!

More selfies to feel less forever alone.

Much to the delightment of the forever loners, the music got upbeat. Everyone left the table and joined the dance floor. There were erratic and spontaneous dance movements, twerking- things got crazy but everyone seemed to have so much fun doing stupid movements! Or at least I did.

When we finally settled down, Jack (who apparently became the new emcee lol) and Woo came up with a game for the singles where the pair had to get the balloon from the tummy to the forehead without using their hands. As for the couples, each pair was given a Pocky stick each and the pair with the shortest Pocky stick wins. There was one pair who finished the stick in seconds and kissed lol (not sure whether was it by accident or)

It was then down to the announcement of the best dressed nominees. The nominees were picked by Pn. Te, one of the teachers who attended the prom and also involved in the organization. The male nominees were Wenk Lab, Samuel and Wee and as for the female, they were Wei Juene, Tharshini and ME. Yes, me! The six of us were first asked to do the catwalk from the stage to the floor. Then, the guys were forced to do the Gwiyomi and as for the girls, we had to do the Gangnam style. IN HEELS. On that moment, I just wished I wasn't nominated in the first place. My reputation went down the drain as I came up with the most unglamorous Gangnam style hahaha. I am so thankful that nobody recorded my dance!

Best-dressed couples.

After that, Pn. Te was invited to hand out presents to the winners of the lucky draw. Instead of calling out the names, the handphone numbers of the winners were dialed instead. Each lucky winner was asked to say a word or two about how they felt and most of them said less than 10 words. Or five hahaha. And as usual, luck wasn't on my side.

The night then officially ended but of course we cannot leave without pictures, can we?

As I look through these photos once more, I can't help but smile for they contain reminiscence from the night. Nobody likes goodbyes and it is sad to see everyone part but I guess this is how life works. I am glad that we were able to gather once more for the last time (before meeting up for SPM results that is).

What a great night it was. Once again, the night was only made possible credits to Woo who took the initiative to organize such event!
