  10-13 December 2013: Zero Gravity Camp 2013 (Part 1)
Monday, January 13, 2014 @ 11:19 PM

Finally blogging about camp after a month! Took me quite a while to remember every single detail that took place during the camp, so please forgive me if I missed out on anything.

This camp was a little different than the previous camps. If you actually read my old blog posts from the other blog, you'd notice the change of the camp name. It is no longer known as MAD Camp but the Zero Gravity Camp!

The camp took place in Peacehaven, a campsite located in Genting. The weather was lovely but it was not ideal for the games which I would talk about later. There were a total of 70+ campers which was almost double the amount of campers we had in the last camp!

Day 1

A selfie to start the day ta daaa!

And an unflattering ootd lol.

Because I was one of the camp committees and I was in charge of the accommodation, I left for the campsite early together with the music team. All these years of camps, I have never reached the campsite earlier than the rest before, so this was a pretty new experience! Sat in the van together with Caleb Pang, Bailey, Tejh and Sun Sun. We stopped by at Mc Donald's first to have lunch and to stock up on snacks and sweets supplies hehe.

This time, I had to arrange the campers into four dorms (two for the guys and the other two for the girls) and no it wasn't as easy as you think it is because I had to put a lot of things into consideration. Will they be able to get along? Will they feel left out? Will they be comfortable with their dorm mates? And will the leaders approve the list?

I thought that my job was done once I printed out the name lists but I was wrong. Upon reaching the campsite, we had to deal with the person in charge to finalize a lot of things. She asked me so many questions that I don't even know about T___T Supposedly I was only in charge of the accommodation, so I was very blur and had no answers to her questions (why was she even asking me at the first place). First day itself already had to go through so much hassle T__T Thank God everything was settled and we were good to go.

The campers arrived about an hour later. The hall we got was pretty small but we managed to squeeze everyone in. Samuel Pang who was the camp commander, welcomed us for the camp. They already had an ice-breaking session before they left for church, so they didn't have one at the campsite. We were briefed on the rules and regulations then divided into the games group. There were four groups altogether- Maltus, Krypton, Galactus and Asgard. I was in the best team ever, team Maltus together with Debbie, Christon, Esther, Alyssa, Christine, Silveena, Kenneth, Gilford, Lei Yun Kevin and Arnold! Keong and Kailey were our group leaders. Started sharing informations about ourselves just to get to know each other a little better.

Hans, the game master, then gave us each a name tag saying that we were to protect our tags from other team members throughout the camp because once it's stolen, the other party gets the benefits. Started off with this game where two members from the team had to transport as many peas as possible from one end to the other using a spoon placed in his/her mouth. The other member without the spoon has to butt-shuffle together with the other member as quick as possible. My team did pretty well and if I am not mistaken, we came in second! If I am not mistaken lah that is hehehe.

We were then assigned to our dorms, I mean, I assigned everyone to their dorms lololol. The dorms we got was not bad. The beds were comfy, there were drawers and compartments to keep our supplies and we had a mirror too for us vain pots. The only problem I had with the dorm was there were plenty of bugs who spend the night with us in our dorm. :( I am very scared of insects one leh, especially the ones which can fly! T___T

Outside our dorms.

The first day was pretty relaxed. The committees decided to give us campers a break after a long trip in the bus. That night, Aleyna decided to spend time with the girls talking about random things. She was so friendly and was very easy to get along. Talked about good food, places to shop and relationships in the wee hours hehe just kidding we didn't end that late but DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE GIRLS WHEN IT COMES TO TALKING. ^__^

Day 2

It was so hard to get out of bed having the perfect weather to sleep in.

Anyway, here comes day 2! I remembered we had a lovely breakfast that morning and why I said so was because we had toasts and scrambled eggs yum yum. My love for toast and scrambled eggs is eternity (yes green tea, I still love you) but just how can you say no to toasts and scrambled eggs?!

We had a pretty long break in between, so we went outside for a walk. And of course, we have to take pictures don't we.

Natasha was saying that this picture looked like a scene from a sad music video because of the two sesat guys behind lololol.

The big games begun on this day! Since we had four days of camp in total, the big games were divided into two parts. Part one was held indoor on the fifth floor. Everyone was told to blindfold themselves and form a human chain among our teammates. We were guided to the fifth floor with guidance from our team leader. They didn't make the journey easy for us of course. As we were walking up the stairs blindfolded, the games committees sneakily came up with ways to scare us such as tickles, brushing things against our skin and placing dead anchovies on our hands. At first I was afraid but later I overcame my fear by praying hahaha! Being blind is not fun at all.

For the first game, each member from the team had to go through various obstacles blindfolded with guidance from our team leader again. Again, being the typical "Laura the coward", I was afraid but Keong did his best in guiding me and kept reminding me it was nothing. After I completed the course, I was shocked to see how the obstacles looked like because they were just a stack of chairs, bunch of strings and a freaking kids' playset LOL good job games committees.

As for the second game, we played dodgeball! Except that we used toilet rolls instead of balls lololol. It was a tough game and I only managed to hit one person with the toilet roll :( The third game was where the disgusting elements fit into the games. Each team was to send a few representatives to make their way through a bowl of flour and ALIVE worms to search for papers using their mouths. The papers contain numbers which matches the type of food we were about to eat. My team got pineapples, pickled pickles, red bean and sardine. The food we got weren't that bad actually compared to others teams which got raw mushrooms. Overall, my team did pretty good except for the last game.

Pastor Isaiah was our camp speaker. Being a Christian for him was tough as he came from a strong Muslim background (he is from Singapore btw). He shared about how he first encountered God's presence in a church which he stepped into by accident. When his family found out about him converting into Christianity, he was stripped away from all his financial support and love from them. He even had to struggle his way out of his house to attend the church.

The part which hit me the most was when his dad held a knife at his throat threatening him to leave God and return to his old religion. It scares me how humans can be so unpredictable at times. I mean, who would expect a father to kill his own son? At this point, Pastor Isaiah surrendered his life to God and sang his heart out. The story after this was amazing because there was sort of like a protective shield formed between him and his family. His father missed his neck by an inch!

Despite all the struggles he faced, God blessed him abundantly in return! Now, he has a beautiful wife, a lovely family, a house and a luxurious car. His story was inspiring as often at times I think I have a tough life and the worst problems. His story reminded me that with God will always be there for us and keep us in safe hands. He would never ever let us get into bad situations without a reason. When God said He will do it, He WILL do it.

God's presence was overwhelming that night. As I surrender myself to God, it was my turn to get prayed for. Ben who was praying for me said I should have a great leap of faith in God in order for Him to work His ways in my life. It is true how I often doubt God and his plans for me. Tears started flowing down my cheeks and I knelt before God. I felt loved, I felt comfort, I felt peace and I felt complete. It was something I have not felt for a really long time. Even the ones who look tough and buff from the outside poured their heart out to God. What a wonderful experience.

The weather was lovely that night. We chilled at the bench outside while munching on hot instant noodles. Hot instant noodles plus chilly weather equals to perfection weih. Spent the rest of the night chatting with some of the girls in the dorm. And this time we did chat in the wee hours hehe.
